Dressing for the Airport in the Summer Is Weird—7 Outfits That Won't Make You Overheat

I recently went on a trip where just a few hours in a tiny box took me from a quite chilly New York City to a hot and humid climate. Coming off of the plane and onto shuttles that take you to the airport, there can be an instant overheating moment if you've overdressed, but I was lucky enough to avoid the discomfort. I quickly shedded some layers and felt instantly ready for the warmer weather that surrounded me, which is why I'm always advocating for layering up.

One of the biggest struggles when in search of the perfect airport outfit in the summer is the fact that the AC on an airplane can really get to you. While it might be warm where you're going, the airport you'll be spending time in might be quite warm. Wherever you're headed this summer, I've rounded up airport outfits for you that are worth viewing.

This outfit is simple, easy, and something I'll be repeating again and again. Sweatpants with a lightweight tank top and breezy button-down will never fail me. Running around a chic European city looks good in this attire.

One of my favorite hacks for dressing for the plane is wearing things that I know I can wear again once I land. This layered look includes three pieces that will come in handy later in the trip. Plus, red jeans just make me feel like the weather is getting warmer, so I'm a fan.

When in doubt, just follow my lead. I used to swear against wearing sweatpants outside of the house, but I've now found my way into them. On a travel day that's over eight hours long, you deserve to be comfortable. A lightweight sweatsuit with a comfortable tank top underneath makes it easy to get some relief when you get off the plane.

I used to swear against wearing shorts on the plane, but I recently pulled off a pair of Bermudas when leaving a warm climate, and it was the best decision ever. I didn't get cold on the plane and felt great all the way to the check-in desk.

A sweaterdress basically is the equivalent of walking around in a blanket except it looks extremely elevated. I love the versatility of being able to tie a sweater around my shoulders or being able to wear it when the AC kicks in.

This is the type of outfit I'm going to wear when I'm manifesting a first-class ticket. An oversize button-down worn open and wide-leg white pants are the ideal combination. I'd style the button-down with a bikini and a beach read as soon as I get to the resort.

Okay, here's a genius idea. Pair your capris with a sweater and a scarf tied around your neck, then when you arrive at your destination, the scarf can be your top. With a quick trip to the airport bathroom, you'll have a new look. Just a thought.
