9 Iconic and "IYKYK" Shops Stylish New Yorkers Swear By
New York is unarguably one of the most stylish destinations in the United States. Whether you're into shopping or not, you're likely familiar with the crucial role New York plays in the fashion world. Beyond fashion week, the city has always been known for its incredible curation of shops and boutiques. Between the designer stores and hidden vintage shops, the retail scene is always evolving, which is why I thought I'd share some of the best shopping destinations of the moment.
Some of the shops listed below will be familiar to you, while others are more under the radar, but I can assure you that every single time I asked a fellow New Yorker which stores were worth it, these were on the list. So whether you live in the city or will find yourself there sometime soon, be sure to scope out the retail stores beloved by stylish city dwellers themselves.
Still Here
If you're on the hunt for a good pair of jeans, Still Here should be your first stop in New York. It offers a premium take on denim, from unique patchwork pairs to timeless silhouettes. The brand has been worn by celebrities like Taylor Swift, Hailey Bieber, and Kaia Gerber.
Location: 268 Elizabeth Street, New York, NY 10012
Hours: Mon–Sun 11 a.m.–7 p.m.
Kallmeyer
Kallmeyer opened up its flagship boutique in 2018, and it was among the first fashion destinations to lead the popularity of shopping on Orchard Street. The brand rethinks everyday staples for women. You'll find everything from refined blazers to supple satin dresses, and every piece looks sharp but still has a comfortable and chill wearability to it.
Location: 83 Orchard Street, New York, NY 10002
Hours: Tues–Sat 12 p.m.–7 p.m; Sun 12 p.m.–6 p.m.; Mon closed
Coming Soon
If you have dozens of NYC apartments saved on Pinterest for décor inspiration, there will most likely be a homeware item from Coming Soon in the picture somewhere. At the home-and-gift shop, you can find a wide assortment of eclectic items ranging from spiral candles to vintage furniture from the '70s.
Location: 53 Canal Street, New York, NY 10002
Hours: Mon–Fri 12 p.m.–7 p.m; Sat–Sun 11 a.m.–7 p.m
Khaite
Whether you're looking to make an investment or simply want to window-shop and admire the work of Catherine Holstein, Khaite's first and only store in SoHo is a must-see. Designed by Holstein and her architect husband, Griffin Frazen, the interior is cement- and steel-lined with an evergreen tree planted into the shop's floor, making the entire shopping experience museum-like. You can find the latest runway collections available at the store, as well as some of the brand's staple pieces.
Location: 165 Mercer Street, New York, NY 10012
Hours: Mon–Sat 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sun 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
Maryam Nassir Zadeh
Every piece designed by Maryam Nassir Zadeh is guaranteed to make you feel sexy, cool, unique, and confident all at once.
Location: 123 Norfolk Street, New York, NY 10002
Hours: Mon–Sun 11 a.m–7 p.m.
Sandy Liang
Sandy Liang lives in New York's Lower East Side, so it only made sense for the designer to open her store there. The store is just as playful and cool as her clothes are. The racks are usually filled with bow-clad handbags, baby-doll dresses, and ruffled skirts. You can also find one-of-a-kind and exclusive items in-store that won't be available online or at different retailers.
Location: 28 Orchard Street, New York, NY 10002
Hours: Mon–Sun 12 p.m–6 p.m.
Kith Women
Kith's regular flagship has always been an iconic NYC shopping destination (I'll never get over its ice cream, though), so there was quite a buzz among the fashion set when the brand opened up a women's flagship. The store carries Kith Women's in-house items as well as multi-brand apparel and accessories. It's also host to a flower shop in partnership with PlantShed and an in-shop cafe.
Location: 644 Broadway, New York, NY 10012
Hours: Mon–Sat 11 a.m–8 p.m.; Sun 12 p.m.–7 p.m.
Sincerely, Tommy
Sincerely, Tommy is both a lifestyle store and an in-house coffee bar that focuses on emerging brands and creating a sense of community.
Location: 343 Tompkins Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11216
Hours: Mon–Tues 11 a.m–4 p.m.; Wed–Fri 11 p.m.–5 p.m.; Sat–Sun 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
"I admire Sincerely, Tommy for their intriguing concept and style. They have such an inspiring way of unifying different communities through lifestyle and fashion. I also enjoy supporting Black-owned businesses!" — Chanel Mckinsie
James Veloria
Nestled within a shopping mall in Chinatown—right next door to NYC's beloved Eckhaus Latta—is the hidden gem of all gems, James Veloria. The owners, Collin James Weber and Brandon Veloria Giordano, have their curation down to a science, carrying the most exquisite selection of designer vintage from the '80s to early 2000s at honestly very fair prices compared to most vintage dealers.
Location: 75 East Broadway #225, New York, NY 10002
Hours: Mon–Sun 12 p.m.–7 p.m
